Podium for Oldfield Motorsport at Formula Ford Festival
Oldfield Motorsport scored a dramatic podium finish in the 40th running of the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch. The Formula Ford Festival is regarded as one of the most important events in British Motorsport, with past winners including F1 stars such as Jenson Button and Mark Webber.
The event attracted over 100 drivers from not only the UK but Ireland, France, Switzerland, Iceland, America and Canada, all doing battle through a series qualification races to reach the grand final of 30 drivers.
Oldifeld Motorsport, with their 2014 British Championship winning driver Stuart Gough, once again had support for the event from local company SiB Insurance and Oldfields Autos, reached the final by virtue of finishing 5th in his heat race and 4th in his semi-final, both held in tricky damp conditions. Starting from 10th on the grid had a big task ahead of him in the 20 lap shoot out. Making a strong start Stuart was running in 6th place, when the race was stopped following another driver suffering an engine failure and dropping oil onto the track.
The re-start, held over just 10 laps, saw the lead battle intensify with the top 10 drivers running nose to tail, with Stuart battling through to 3rd position which he maintained until the chequered flag fell. Stuart also received the Roger Pedrick Trophy for being the highest placed English driver.
A jubilant Stuart was full of praise for this team, Oldfield Motorsport;
“An amazing result for us in such an iconic event. The weather worked against us somewhat in the qualification races, but we knew come the final held in perfect conditions we would be strong. It was very much a case of keeping out of trouble, yet being aggressive to make passes when you could. I was not sure if it was possible to come from as far back as 10th, but in the Festival anything can happen.
It’s a huge result for Oldfield Motorsport, SiB Insurance and Oldfieds Autos. It’s our 3rd Formula Ford Festival together and our 3rd podium finish (2nd in 2012 and 3rd in 2014) and its testament to their hard work and support.”
