Oldfield Motorsport to Run Latest Specification Van Diemen Chassis in 2016
Oldfield Motorsport are proud to announce that for the 2016 season, they will be preparing 2 of the latest specification Van Diemen FF1600.
The team have already acquired the 2 cars, which are currently in build, with completion due for mid February.
Being offer to offer 2 cars available for the season allows us offer 2 opportunities for drivers to compete in equal machinery with their team mate and race in any of the FF1600 championships and events in the UK.
Team Manager, James Oldfield:
“Having run the Van Diemen RF92 chassis since 2012, we have had some great results with the car, and punched well above our weight with various drivers in the cars, scored many wins and podiums, and we have really enjoyed being the ‘underdogs’, and on many occasions coming out on top. But the time has come for us to move on our blue and white Van Diemen RF92 and add new machinery to our team.
Following on from the domination of the 2014/2015 season by Van Diemen competitors of Wayne Boyd with Medina Sport (2014 Walter Hayes Trophy and 2015 FF Festival Winners), Johnny McMullan with Bernard Dolan/Motorsport Ireland (2015 National Champions) and Graham Carroll with BM Racing (2015 Walter Hayes Trophy Winners), choosing the Van Diemen as our choice of latest spec car to run was an all too easy decision to make.
I am absolutely delighted to have struck the deal with John and Elaine Loebell at Medina Sport Van Diemen to run 2 of the new specification Van Diemen cars, and I can’t wait to get the cars built and on track in early spring, and getting plans in place for our 2016 season attack, which will also include continuing to preparing our 2014 National Championship winning black and white Van Diemen RF92 for the long foreseeable future.”
2016 will see the SuperSeries, BRSCC National and SMRC FF1600 championships offer a prize to each respective champion the opportunity to win a $200,000USD scholarship to compete in the 2017 USF2000 championship, via the Road to Indy incentive, where USF2000 is the first step on the ladder to IndyCar.
2016 will also see FF1600 graduate, Connor Daly, compete in the 2016 Verizon IndyCar series, following Josef Newgarden and Spencar Pigot who have also secured full time IndyCar drives for 2016.
Oldfield Motorsport were the 2014 championship winning team, and we are ready and prepared with the latest machinery to do just so again.
