Race Car Preparation Projects
As well as offering ‘day services’ to prepare your race car, we can also offer rebuild, restoration and preparation services.
Having rebuilt no less than 7 Formula Ford cars (to which 6 of them have gone on to race wins), Oldfield Motorsport have the experience, knowledge and resources to ‘field’ a racing car, old or new, to the highest standard.
Nigel Thompson – Van Diemen RF88
Having raced continually since his first FF race in 2005, Nigel has climbed his way up the ladders of championships, claiming over 5 championships with his Van Diemen RF88, initially rebuilt, continually rebuilt, prepared and maintained by Oldfield Motorsport.
In the winter of 2014/2015, Oldfield Motorsport are taking on rebuilding his RF88 again after 2 season competing in the European FFR championship, one to which Nigel’s hopes to make a push at winning the championship.
Kevin Donnelly – Van Diemen RF88
Competing alongside team mate Nigel Thompson, also in his Van Diemen RF88, Kevin has had a great series of races and championship efforts.
Kevin made his debut in 2008 at Mallory Park, and got to grips quickly with his RF88. Having taken 3 race wins, he is eager for more victories and will be pushing with team mate Nigel to claim more in the FFR championship in Europe.
Chris Hodgen – Van Diemen RF89
Chris has been racing for many seasons in many different categories for many seasons, and has many racing victories to his name, as driver and team owner.
Over the 2013/2014 winter, Oldfield Motorsport conducted a full rebuild on his championship winning RF89, which included many major chassis alterations, new bodywork, suspension updates and new wiring loom.
Chris had a great 2014 season racing with Myerscough College Motorsport, with close action at the front with Jamie Jardine, which he narrowly missed out on defending his titles. But in 2014, he took 5 wins and many podiums.
Pedro Matos –Van Diemen RF88
Pedro came to the UK in 2009 to start racing at 16 years old after a successful karting career in Portugal and Europe.
Although only making 6 appearances in his 88, Pedro was quickly up to pace, taking a stunning race win at Spa Francorchamps in 2010.
Pedro also competed in several BRSCC events at Oulton Park, Brands Hatch and Silverstone, with the car now under ownership of a family friend in Oporto, and is regularly driven around Portimao, Estorial and Braga.
Oldfield Motorsport have also been involved in the conversion of a Swift 97 from Zetec to Kent specification over a number of years.
This is a real ‘project’ and the conversions (especially on rare cars) require much thought and discipline to develop the cars in the right ways and in the right areas.
Including new bell cranks, dampers, discs, callipers and exhaust system, a large number of modifications to the car were required to be compatible in Kent specification.
A development with the cars setup is ongoing, with time in the car being found every time it hits the track.
Oldfield Motorsport Van Diemen JL16

The car offers one of the safest, fastest and comfortable FF1600 cars to drive, with many championship and trophy event victories to its credit, the team have the knowledge, experience and information to get the most out of the chassis.
