About Oldfield Motorsport
Formula Ford 1600 Championship Winning Team
Oldfield Motorsport was a fresh team to the Formula Ford 1600 paddock in 2012.
Setup by James Oldfield to run their own Van Diemen RF92 chassis, James, accompanied with his father Peter, form a strong pairing of experienced mechanics and fresh engineers.
Operating from a custom designed workshop facility in Tamworth, near Birmingham, the team is located in a prime spot to operate in the UK, and offer workshop facilities unrivalled in F1600. With many UK tracks all within 2.5 hours of our facility, we are ideally located to compete in many UK regional and National series.
The team is headed by James Oldfield. The 28 year old setup the team in 2012 to fulfil his lifelong dream to run his own race team shortly following the acquisition of his first race car.
Following on from a 3 year stint as a Formula 3 mechanic with veteran race team outift Tem West Tec, James learnt his trade for high level race car mechanic along with chassis and suspension setup from FF1600 master Gavin Wills and his team of equally experienced mechanics and engineers.
James is joined at the helm of Oldfield Motorsport with father Peter Oldfield, who is a primary director at the family business and prime team sponsor, Oldfield’s Autos. Peter has had many years of experience in the motor trade and in motorsport, dating all the way back to the 70’s when he began rallying with his father, Maurice, and working at the family business.
With the team joins a familiar name to the Formula Ford paddock, Gough. Spear headed by drivers Stuart and Ian, along with father Andy as mechanic, the family work strongly together with Oldfield Motorsport to follow their racing pursuits, which in the past has taken them to F3, Euro NASCAR and British Formula Ford.
With the assistance of the Gough family, Oldfield Motorsport are provided with two of the very best British FF1600 drivers in Ian and Stuart Gough, who offer their ability to race and fine tune the Oldfield Motorsport’s cars, trail new parts and components and offer second-to-none driver coaching for all Oldfield Motorsport’s drivers.
With support from team backers SIB (Southport Insurance Brokers), motorsport lubricants company Opie Oils, Swedish tool giant Teng Tools, electronics specialists Electric-Technics and Chaser Technical Services, Oldfield Motorsport are
well supported and prepared to compete at the sharp end of any FF grid.
